About

In 2001, the National Center for Victims of Crime began to focus on the high rate of victimization against teens, the lack of culturally and developmentally appropriate teen victim services, and the lack of youth engagement on victimization issues. Since then, we have worked intensively with youth and adults in more than 100 localities on youth-led community change projects to grow programs, policies, outreach, and services for youth victims of crime, and have provided training and technical assistance to thousands of others at the local, state, tribal, and national levels.

The Youth Initiative of the National Center for Victims of Crime leads a national strategic initiative to identify and fill the gaps in interventions to support youth affected by violence and victimization by building the nation's capacity to support them, while working to advance their rights and ensuring youth leadership on issues that affect youth. Although children and teens are victimized at a higher rate than any other age group in the nation, they have the fewest rights, protections, and services.
